The Rt. Rev. Michael Smith, Bishop of North Dakota

The Rt. Rev. Michael G. Smith is the eleventh bishop of North Dakota.
An enrolled member of the Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma, he served
churches in Oklahoma and Minnesota before coming to North Dakota. He
is a member of the Episcopal Council on Indigenous Ministries.
Smith and his wife, the Rev. Lisa White Smith, are the parents of three
children and the grandparents of one. He holds degrees in
psychology, music, social work and theology from Oklahoma State
University, Marymount College of Kansas, the University of Oklahoma and
Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Bishop Michael places a high
priority on the baptismal ministries of all the people of God, evangelism,
youth ministry, the diaconate, Benedictine spirituality and theological
education. His desire is that each of the congregations of the
Diocese of North Dakota becomes "community of disciples who make other
disciples." |

Fr. Steve came to Gethsemane
Cathedral in September of 2007, after serving churches in the state of
Texas since 1986. A former investigative newspaper reporter and editor,
he is the author of "Terror on Highway 59," published by Texas Monthly
Press in 1984. His book was subsequently produced as a
made-for-television movie by the CBS network in January of 1989, starring
Rick Schroder and George Dzunda. Fr. Steve and his wife Dixie have been
married 20 years. They have served parishes in Austin, Houston, College
Station, Marshall, and Lubbock, Texas. His daughter Casey, from his first
marriage, lives and works in Austin, Texas. Fr. Steve is a musician (he
plays 10 musical instruments), a historian, a poet, a Christian clown, and
a sports enthusiast. |

The Rev. Canon Kevin Goodrich O.P.,
Canon Missioner

Canon Kevin serves
on the diocesan staff as the Canon Missioner for the southeastern region
of the diocese, which includes the Cathedral. He assists Bishop Michael
with his ministry of oversight, leadership, and ministry development in
the diocese. He assists with special services at the Cathedral, preaches
on occasion, and provides opportunities for the clergy of the Cathedral
to develop their spiritual life and ministry skills. He and his wife
Melissa served churches and ministries in Connecticut, New Jersey, and
Pennsylvania, before coming to North Dakota. Canon is a life professed
tertiary in the Anglican Order of Preachers (Dominicans).

Leisha Woltjer, Cathedral Coordinator

Leisha has worked at Gethsemane Cathedral
since April of 2002. She was raised on a farm near Elbow Lake, MN and has
lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area since 1995. In her spare time, Leisha
loves to spend time with her family and friends, and enjoys decorating,
gardening, and outdoor activities. Leisha finds
Gethsemane a wonderfully rewarding place to work for many reasons, but the
best reward is interacting with the diverse people in the congregation.

The Rev. Ann
Anderson, Assisting Priest

Ordained a priest in 2003, Ann is
currently serving on two committees on a diocesan level which include the
Episcopal Foundation of Higher Education and the Youth Ministry Board. At
Gethsemane, she teaches the confirmation class and leads 'Ladies Night Out'
women's group. Married to David for 23 years, they have 4 children and 3
grandchildren.

The Rev. Mary Gokey,
Deacon
Mary was
ordained in May 2002 as a deacon and has chosen to remain a permanent
Deacon at Gethsemane Cathedral. She hopes to develop a parish
nursing program at Gethsemane. She is married to Snyder and they have two children,
Charlie and Sarah. Mary
is a registered nurse employed by MeritCare
Health System as a Stroke Coordinator responsible for developing a JCAHO
certified Primary Stroke Center program at MeritCare. She
loves assisting at the Altar on Sundays and for special services like
funerals and weddings, and has participated in children's ministries until recently.
Her focus has changed to reflect a hospital based/health ministry. |

The Rev. Linnae Grabner-Hegg, Assisting Priest

Linnae was ordained
a deacon in May 2002 and was ordained a priest in May of 2003 at Gethsemane
Cathedral. Her main focus is on retreats and mission trips. Linnae's
dream is to be a spiritual director or chaplain of a camp/retreat center.
She loves the outdoors and takes every opportunity to bike, camp, hike, canoe,
garden and cross country ski. Linnae's husband also loves the
outdoors and is very content to tinker and fix things, to do landscaping and
gardening, and all of the things mentioned above. She sees this as a
ministry they could do together. They both meet God in nature.

The Rev. Terry Overbo, Deacon
Terry was ordained a deacon in June 2007.
She is involved in many aspects of the church such as assisting with Sunday and
Wednesday services and coordinating acolytes but her main area of ministry is
working with youth. |

The Rev. Jamie Parsley, Assisting Priest

Father Jamie is Assistant to the
Bishop for Communications for the Diocese of North Dakota, in addition to being
an Assisting Priest at Gethsemane.
Father
Jamie has Master’s Degrees from Vermont College and Nashotah
House Seminary. In addition to his duties in the Diocese and at the Cathedral,
he also teaches theology, ethics, philosophy and writing at the
University of Mary’s Fargo Campus. He is the editor of The Sheaf, the
newspaper of the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota and he also created and
maintains the Diocesan blog at
www.episcopal-nd.blogspot.com. He also serves
as the Province VI Representative to the Episcopal Life Board of
Governors.
Father
Jamie is also an accomplished and award-winning poet. He is the author of
seven books of poems, including, most recently, Just Once (2007), which
chronicles his diagnosis, treatment and ultimate recovery from cancer. In 2004
he was named Associate Poet Laureate of North Dakota. His website is

John Peterson, Assisting Priest
After 5 decades as a Lutheran minister, Fr. John was received as an
Episcopal Priest and joined the Gethsemane assisting clergy in November
2006. He assists in teaching Christian education classes.

Charlotte Robbins, Deacon

Charlotte was ordained a deacon in June 2007. Her areas of interest
include pastoral care, outreach, and healing ministry. She is
co-chair of Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) for the diocese, and
attends Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). She is also a member of the
Order of St. Luke (OSL), and Church Women United. She enjoys serving
the church in many different aspects. |

The Rev.
Crystal Towers, Deacon
Crystal was ordained a Deacon in
June 2007. Deacon Crystal Towers is active in various organizations
within the Fargo community. She serves as a liaison for "First Choice
Clinic" and is a volunteer for "Make-A-Sound Choice." Rev. Towers enjoys
teaching Sunday school, working with youth, providing pastoral care to the
elderly and veterans. Her areas of ministry are Post Deployment Veteran's
Families, Campus Ministry and Youth Ministry. |

Duffy was ordained a deacon in May
2002 and a priest in May 2003. He helps with hospital and nursing home
visitation, assists with Sunday services and presides at the Wednesday
12:00noon Healing Eucharist. |

Marie Slanger, Bookkeeper
Marie has been the bookkeeper of
Gethsemane since 1998. She lives in Fargo with her husband Bill.
They have been members of Gethsemane for several years. They have
three grown sons.

Dr. Mark Ring, Choirmaster/Organist
Conductor Dr. Mark Ring is active in a
variety of musical venues. A Doctor of Musical Arts graduate of Yale University,
he is currently Artistic Director of Voices of Concord, Choirmaster/Organist of
Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral, Chorusmaster for Fargo-Moorhead Opera,
Director of Choirs at Moorhead High School (a two-time Grammy Signature Award
winning program) and Vice President for Music of the European Institute for
Humanities and Fine Arts.
He has conducted hundreds of performances throughout the United States, Europe
(England, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic) and the
Caribbean (Puerto Rico.) The
Dallas Morning News called his Notre Dame Chorale concert in Meyerson
Symphony Center "breathtaking". He has also conducted performances on both ABC
and CBS television networks.
