Meeting Called to Order:   6:00pm

Welcome of New Members:  Charles Stevens, Betty Kerns and Lucy Spaeth.  Mark Starkweather was not able to make the meeting.

Installation of new members by Dean Steve Sellers

Adoption of Agenda: Agenda Passed

Minutes from January 18, 2008: Motion to accept as written:  Clotine Frear  Seconded: Bruce Carlson  Motion Carried

Wyatt from Western Products presented the benefits of the 30 year shingles vs. the 50 shingles.  Main difference is that the thickness of the mat on the back. This would affect the warranty insurance concerning wind damage, but not hail damage.  There are ‘Impact Resistance’ shingles – which again only concerns the mat not the granules.  The granules are what are damaged during a hail storm, as more of those come off of the mat – the more apt the shingles are going to curl.  The granules are what protect the roof from UV rays.

Clotine asked about the color choices – we are going with cobblestone gray.

Dean’s Report:   Introduction of all Chapter Members for the new members coming onto the Chapter. Welcome all!  All the existing officers of the Chapter have agreed to continue in their positions from last year.  Yea!  Thank you to all the Officers!

The Lenten daily Eucharist is going well.  Averaging around 20 people per service.  The voluntary clergy has been a great help in assisting with the additional services during lent.  All of the Clergy are in preparation for Holy Week.

Wednesday Nights are going well; the College and Young Adult group is starting to take off.

The Installation of Chris Golding as Verger will be on March 9, 2008 at the 11am service.  Diane Betts from the National Church will be here to assist in the installation.  Questions were abundant in what exactly a Verger is and what his duties will be.  Basically an ‘Emcee’ of services. He assists the clergy in preparation for services.  Leads the procession/gospel/recession.  Trainer of acolytes. His colors will be purple gown with a black overlay.

Dean Steve and Dixie have decided to let the masses congregate at their house on March 29th - they will be holding an open house from 4p to 6p. Dean Steve is adjusting slowly to the minus 20 degree weather!

Senior Warden’s Report: Dave gave the report.

Nursery – Leisha has talked with Kim at the preschool in house, and she declined mainly due to it having to be a Sunday.  Discussion on how to get the nursery open.  Suggestions on contacting MSUM and NDSU in their Child Ed section to try to get those students involved. While the nursery is closed, the sign will be changed to indicate to parents that they are welcome to bring their children to the Fireside Room and to make sure that the overhead speakers are on.

Lighting for the Choir area… Dave went to Valley Lights and received an estimate for $175 to install the additional lighting for that area.  Leisha will call the Cathedral’s electrician for an estimate on the labor.

Discussion on the Church Pictorial Directory – looking for volunteers to take the pictures during the month of April.  Jamie Parsley has volunteered and Barb Fene was another suggestion.  We are looking for other volunteers to take the pictures.

Treasurer’s Report:  Brett presented the treasury reports.

Great news!  The van has been sold.  Yea Leisha!  The van sold for $2300, this money will be added to the Capital Campaign.  Prior to next months meeting, Brett will again hold a Finance 101 for the new chapter members and any existing members who want a refresher on how to read the Treasurer’s Reports.

The bookkeeper has requested to change Leisha to a twice a month pay period.  This would be based on her salary and will be paid on the 15th and 30th of each month. Motion to pay the Cathedral Coordinator on a salary divided by 24 to be paid on the 15th and 30th of each month: Clotine Frear  Seconded: Mark Harvey Motion Carried

Brett will write an explanation of the ‘Fair Share Plan’ of the North Dakota Diocese for the Caller next month.  As there have been many inquiries about this and how it is affecting Gethsemane Cathedral.

Motion to approve the Treasurer’s report as written:  Clotine Frear Seconded:  Mark Harvey.  Motion Carried.

Junior Warden’s Report:  Pete talked more about the shingles that Wyatt had presented earlier.  He recommends going with the 30 year shingles.  He was 2 bids in for the siding:  $210,000 from one company and $179,300 from Western Products.  He emphasized that if we go with Western Products, they would be able to work the siding and roof together.  We will need to put a $10,000 down payment to Western Products in March after the CD comes due.

Discussion on Clean-up Week.  The week will be March 8th – March 15th.  We will arrange it the same as last year with a week to get the work done and team leaders to get the work done and volunteers arranged. Clotine suggested working with Mark, the custodian, so that work is not doubled.  Clotine bowed out of chair person this year.  Thank you for all your help last year Clotine!  Leisha will post in the Extra/Extra letting the congregation know that it’s coming up and to encourage them to sign up to help!

Cathedral Coordinator: Leisha reported on the upcoming events as presented in the packets.  The next Chapter meeting will be moved to the last Thursday of March due to Holy Week.

The Cathedral does not have a maintenance contract with Peterson Heating, but the contact is Brad.  We need to work on getting a contract and also an estimate on fixing the heating/cooling system.

The heating and cooling system should be added to the Capital Campaign wish list.

Old Business:

Nursery – discussed during Senior Warden’s Report.

Capital Campaign – still getting the committee together.

New Business:

Cathleen Wendel submitted a report on the Youth Group and Outreach.  This can be found in the packets.

.

Closing Prayers:  Led by Dean Steve Sellers  Adjourned:  7:40pm

Next Meeting will be Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 5:30pm with Finance 101 at 4:30pm

Submitted by Brita Leach, Clerk of the Chapter.
